Our lean pork cheeseburgers are super easy, utterly delicious and only 450 calories including the wholemeal bap, homemade burger sauce and generous helping of cheese!

Ingredients (makes 4):

500g 8% fat pork mince
1 whole egg
1 egg white
3 tablespoons of seasonings; thyme, basil, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic and salt to taste
25g plain flour
1 medium onion (diced)

4 x wholemeal baps
100g low fat cheddar cheese (10-12 slices)
40g lighter than light mayonnaise
40g low sugar/salt ketchup
2 sliced salad tomatoes
4-8 lettuce leaves
(optional additions: mushrooms, gherkins, relish)


Pre heat a frying pan on a medium/high heat (you can use low kcal spray, olive or coconut oil)
Whisk the eggs in a mixing bowl
Add the mince break it up with a fork, and combine with the egg
Add the seasonings and diced onion and mix through, before adding the flour and mixing until even
Shape into 4 patties, and flatten slightly on a chopping board to even out the thickness
Fry for 15-20 minutes – remembering to flip half way through cooking

Prepare baps, cheese, salad tomatoes and lettuce
Combine the ketchup and mayonnaise in a bowl
Place the cheese on the burgers around 5 minutes before they’ve finished cooking to soften/melt
Assemble your burgers as you wish

I cooked these burgers for dinner for two, with some pre-seasoned frozen potato wedges and microwavable frozen vegetables.
The other two burgers were left to cool, and then put in the fridge and eaten the next day (maybe…).
